Essay for C1 Advance. "Methods schools and universities use to help students find suitable jobs".

Task:

Your class has taken part in a seminar on whether the education system does enough to help young people to find jobs which fit their habilities and interests. You have made the notes below.

Methods schools and universities use to help students find suitable jobs

  • providing courses and qualifications
  • work experience programmes
  • careers advice

Some opinions expressed in the seminar:

'We study lots of things which we'll never use in any future job'
'Without work experience you'd have no idea what to study at university'
'Some of my teachers can't give me advice because they've never done any job other than teaching'

Write an essay discussing two of the methods in your notes. You should explain which method is more effective, givin reasons in support of your answer.

You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the seminar, but you should use your own words as far as possible.

Essay:

Nowadays, finding a job in which you can settle in as soon as you finish your studies is really difficult without any help at all. At this point, severa programmes are needed by the students to get assistance with their new career.
On one hand, as it was said in the seminar, young people are worried about how to choose the correct degree with no previous experience. That is what the work experience programmes try to fix providing school students with experience in the jobs they want to see if they like and therefore if they want to study for.
On the other hand, schools and universities should have teachers prepaired enough to give advice to their students about the possibilities they have once they finish their studies, and not only teachers or professors who have never done anything different than teaching. Furthermore, there must be a specific department to do monitoring of each student that could also answer any questions about future jobs.
Although both programmes are extremely important to students who have not made their choice yet, I think that the opportunity to test your future job could be more helpful than all the advice teachers could give you, because you can feel how you are going to fit in your workplace.
To sum up, all the help is not enough for young people who have to choose the correct path for their future, so in my opinion, the education system should include these programmes on order to provide society with the besto possible professionals.
